Appetite for Distraction – Another Day.

He wakes up. There is a new film with Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler. They will be in love. They visit Africa. All of Africa. Terry Crewes goons around. There are giraffes. There is dancing. No mention is made to what part of the country of Africa they are visiting. Lion King Land perhaps. The Scotland Independence debate is confusing. Federal system on a tiny island. Would independence turn Scotland into a European Haiti? Probably not. Although that seems to be the underlying threat as expressed by no one. Alex Salmond sings the praises of certain elements of Vladimir Putin’s character. Could this be compared to Mugabe making favourable comments by Hitler? It could but it would not really be accurate. The Cold War returns. Neon returns as a fashion colour. It is the 1980s again. Rhetoric rules. There are no rules. Seth Meyers why. Lorne Michaels Comedy Pope. An enormous Suicide bomb explodes in Iraq. It is enormous. Everyone who is not vaporised is shredded who is not shredded is bleeding and staggering. There are death screams, flames, and diplomatic heads shake sorrowfully as they distance themselves from that which is wrought. Elsewhere Chemical Weapons decimate Syrians. Everything about the world is distressing. There are no winners. There are probably some winners but they live far away from here in well protected enclaves containing buttermilk fountains and angelic perfumes in the air.
The BBC compares grassroots womens peace groups stopping war in Liberia and stopping the disappeared in Argentina with the British State trying to get the muslim community to inform on their men. It is an interesting comparison. He wonders if it is a reasonable comparison. It probably is not. From nail art to footage to the front line of war. Big history big science big politics big big big complexity game theory slavery consumerism cheese dogs and cat videos chewing up the planet. Negotiations are happening for the release of people, for the cessation of war, for reparations for the poor and the disposessed. The Possessed remain untouched. A barrel bomb is literally a barrel full of high explosives. He plays The Room 2. He escapes a room only to find himself trapped in another room. It feels like life. It feels like it’s time for bed. He goes to sleep.

  1. Sorry for the comment spam, but I love the final part of this… “He escapes one room only to find himself in another. It feels like life.” It hit me.
