Randolph County School Board


By a vote of 5-2, the Randolph County School Board has banned The Invisible Man, a National Book Award winning novel about race by Ralph Ellison. Board member Gary Mason said, “I didn’t find any literary value.” Four additional white men joined Mason for a total of five white men voting for the ban, with Emily Coltrane and Todd Cutler voting no.
