Appetite for Distraction – Another Day.

He wakes up. He goes to the store. There is a writhing sea of worms dying in the terrible heat on the sidewalk but no birds come to feast on them as they spit and then dry out in the sun. He eats a bagel and he has a coffee and he reads a book and he watches more of The Human Condition and then later on in the day he plays cards and then he draws some pictures and then he can’t find his bus pass and then he finds his bus pass and then he snaps the hot tap on the shower so he can only have cold showers until the landlord fixes it which will be tomorrow because the store is shut by the time he gets round to telling the landlord that he has snapped the hot tap but it’s okay because cold showers are character building and they remind him of school which is not such a great thing and then he has a sandwich and then he goes to sleep hoping he will not dream about an ocean of writhing worms rising up in a tidal wave blocking out the horizon and drowning all of humanity.
